BIO
Known as "Dr. J" or simply, "The Doctor", Erving was an awesome "above the rim" athlete and a master of airborne moves, dunks and rebounds. Julius exploded on the college scene at the University of Massachusetts, averaging 27 points and 19 rebounds a game in his junior year before leaving the school to sign a four-year, $500,000 contract with the American Basketball Association's Virginia Squires. He was one of only five college players to average more than 20 points and 20 rebounds a games. Erving had a MVP career with the Virginia Squires before being traded to the New York Nets. In three years with the Nets, Erving led the league in scoring twice, in 1974 and 1976 and was selected most valuable player both years. He was the MVP of both championships in 1974 and 1976. Dr. J joined the Philadelphia 76ers in 1976 and led them to the 1986 NBA Championship. He was named to NBA 50th Anniversary All-Time Team.
