BIO
Edward J. Hickox began his coaching career at Springfield College in 1926. Over the next sixteen years, he led Springfield to five New England championships. Hickox served on the National Basketball Rules Committee (NBRC) from 1930 to 1948, and was its chairman from 1945 to 48. He was a Charter member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (1927) and later served as NABC historian from 1944-1966 and NABC president from 1944 to 1946. He was named NABC Man of the Year in 1949. Hickox was Volunteer Executive Secretary of the Basketball Hall of Fame from 1949 to 1963. In 1968, Hickox began the task of building the first Basketball Hall of Fame on the campus of Springfield College, the location of the YMCA Training School where basketball was born.
