Inducted in 2006
BIO
Frank McGuire was the first coach in history to win 100 games at three different schools. He had only three losing seasons in his entire coaching career at St. John's, North Carolina, and South Carolina. McGuire guided teams to 8 NCAA and 7 NIT post-season appearances. He won the NCAA Championship at North Carolina in 1957, beating Kansas and Wilt Chamberlain. McGuire received National Coach of the Year Awards in 1952 for St. John's, in 1957 for North Carolina and in 1970 for South Carolina. He was named ACC Coach of the Year in 1957 for North Carolina and in 1971 for South Carolina. Two of his St. John's players, Lou Carnesecca and Al McGuire, became very successful college coaches. McGuire coached the NBA Philadelphia Warriors during 1961-1962. He authored two successful books, Offensive Basketball (1958) and Defensive Basketball (1959) and is a popular contributor to basketball clinics nationwide.
