Week 1: The League is Back!GAME 1:
The first matchup of the night pitted the defending champions, Da Sqad, against 3 time champions Team Elite. Team Elite was looking down the barrel of a beatdown early in the first half as Da Squad grabbed a sizeable lead behind the sharp shooting of Lorenzo Dean. Team Elite couldn’t buy a bucket in the first half, but Ben Stutler helped his crew claw back within 8 at by intermission. The intensity heated up in the second half with physical play from both sides. Team Elite simply did not have an answer for Nick Burton and his 20 second half points proved to be the difference as Da Squad held on to win 70-62. League’s leading scorer Burton led all scorers with 30 points followed by Stutler’s 22. Team Elite better make some adjustments if they want to return to the three-time championship level they are accustomed to.
GAME 2:
Team Sutera and Davis Law squared off in our final game of the night. Davis Law couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn to start the game. A 20 point deficit looked to be insurmountable, but BJ Jones would not go down without a fight. Usually dogging your own teammates results in disaster, but Jones knew what he was doing and Davis Law fought back behind his 19 points. Former Wichita State standout, Jamar Howard, was the leading scorer for Team Sutera with 24 as they cruised to a 76-66 victory. Cory Shulte added 6 three-pointers (5 in the first half) to balance the scoring offense. If Davis Law can find a true point guard, the rest of the league might be in trouble as Stu Wright (the Big Fella) brings the noise on the interior as he manhandled the post defense from Team Sutera.
Look for major adjustments from the teams as we move forward to week two.

SUMMER '09 SESSION RECAP It was the Championship game of the 2009 CBE Men’s Summer League at the College Basketball Experience. Two teams who survived tough games in the semi-finals would battle it out to be crowned the 2009 Summer League Champions and put a definitive end to the Team Elite dynasty.
Coming into this game, Da Squad had not lost this season and looks to continue that streak against the Gym Rats, who were ranked third going into the playoffs. The Gym Rats, led by the league’s scoring leader, Ben Stutler looked to upset the heavy favorite, Da Squad and earn their first CBE Men’s League title. Both teams got off to a relatively slow start as neither team was able to get established offensively. Offensive miscues and missed free throws hurt the Gym Rats early as they found themselves behind against Da Squad. Robbie Graves led the way for Da Squad with 6 points in the first half and helped maintain his team’s lead. After the first 20 minutes of play, Da Squad held a 21-15 lead over the Gym Rats. Only down by six at halftime, the Gym Rats started to play a little more physical and displayed some aggressiveness on the offensive end as Dustin Bevard led the charge for the Gym Rats, getting it done down low and making a couple ten foot jumpers, scoring 12 points in the second half. Bevard and Ben Stutler both scored 16 points to carry their team; however it wasn’t meant to be on this night as Da Squad took the lead early in the game and never once trailed the rest of the way. Da Squad went 7-0 in the 2009 CBE Men’s Summer League. Although they never lost, they faced several quality opponents who gave them “a run for their money.”

Post game festivities included recognizing Ben Stutler of the Gym Rats as the 2009 CBE Men’s Summer League scoring leader. Stutler received a brand new 8GB Apple iPod Touch for his outstanding effort.
Da Squad’s Vince Smith was awarded the 2009 CBE Men’s Summer League MVP and received a 32” Vizio HD LCD TV.
Finally, Da Squad was recognized as the new Champions, collected the “Silver Cup” trophy along with a CBE t-shirt and a brand new pair of custom Nike basketball shorts.
